Community Engagement
Schmitty & Sons Getting InvolvedHere’s how Schmitty & Sons brings meaning to their work.
Each time we grow our business, we bring our legacy of giving and service to the community around it through local partnerships and programs that we support.
Education Support
Our support in education doesn’t stop at the grade school level. We partner with Dakota County Technical College and Lakeville Works to guide high school graduates and college students in mentorship and apprenticeship programs at Schmitty & Sons. We also partner with 191 Community Education programs geared toward continuing education at all stages of life.

Service to our Local Non-Profits
We are always looking for opportunities to serve the communities in which we are operating. One tangible need we have seen is through the local food shelves. 360 Communities has been an ongoing partner of ours which has assisted us in our efforts to collect and donate food.
Our transit division, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, hosts an annual “Stuff the Bus” event with the purpose of collecting food donations and raising funds for local food shelves. In 2022, we collected 3,241 pounds of food!

Involvement in our local communities
We pride ourselves in not only working in our local communities but being a part of them. We have a commitment to using our resources to make the cities we operate in a better place.
In 2022, Schmitty & Sons was recognized for being the Employer of the Year for People with Disabilities. This was recognized out of our Partnership with Minnesota Valley Transit Authority.
Each summer, Schmitty & Sons hosts a transportation fair for families in our local communities. This is a public event with all kinds of vehicles, food trucks, and activities. We are committed to continuing the transportation fair because it brings the community together.
Over 300 Buses
Since 1952 the Schmitty and Sons fleet has expanded from one bus to over 300 buses today, including school buses, mid-coaches, and motorcoaches.
Employee-Owned
Since 2016 the Schmitty and Sons has been an employee-owned enterprise, which means everyone has a real incentive to make the business a success.
